James A. Michener Papers and Special Collections

91²Ö¿â

The James A. Michener Papers and Special Collections were created in 1978. That year, Michener donated 37 linear feet of his papers to the 91²Ö¿â. The papers were primarily related to his novel Centennial, published in 1974.

Shortly before his death in 1997, he designated the 91²Ö¿â to be the home of his writing and publishing legacy.

The Michener collection now consists of nearly 900 linear feet of materials. These include:

  • Research notes
  • Manuscripts
  • Galley proofs
  • Correspondence
  • Field notebooks, maps, photographs and slides he collected while writing his novels.
